Boys of Today.
In today's world, getting youth interested in their community and the families and histories that made it what it is can be quite the challenge. And of course it is...the rest of the world seems to be working to make sure we are all kept starring at our phones and TVs rather than interacting with one another and the communities that surround us. However, organizations like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts are still thankfully leading the charge to get kids active and invested in their communities.
We were honored to host a batch of Cub Scout Pack 156's finest and their families, who came out to the Halifax Area Historical Society Museum to receive a tour of our establishment's most incredible artifacts and the stories that surround them.
And it was a splendid time to say the least. With Museum Curator Danean Walker treating the group to a mass of vivid stories and facts concerning the town, the boys and families present were hooked...questions and glowing expressions abounding.

Men of Tomorrow.
Something that always comes to mind for me personally (which is odd for a 24-year-old like myself to be thinking about) is just how important these moments are. How a youth will take to history, their community, and society. All of it seems trivial in the moment..."let kids be kids."
Of course, that's true. But then again, aren't these youth, teens, young adults not the next generation of leaders and builders in our world? I say there should be far more intentionality in the time spent in youth today. Without it, it feels like we are just biding our time.
It is in the moments like the splendid time we had with Cub Scout Pack 156 (of which I used to be a member) that I find the seeds of real learning and passion for history and community are sown. And it is my personal hope as a young man that I will not be the only youth to take up that torch and let Halifax's history burn bright.
No matter your age...together...we can make history!
